10 golden travel tips for on the road PDF Print E-mail

This article provides some simple, but golden travel tips for any traveler to take into account during your big trip. While traveling, most of the time you are busy doing all kinds of exciting things and activities. You often change hotel/hostel, you have to get up early to catch a bus or to go on an excursion. Of course, traveling is great, you get to see a lot, you experience different adventures, you get to know new people, nice food, it’s wonderful!
However, you will notice that you don’t have access to the comforts of daily life. You need to take of yourself and you will find that you’re not always prepared for the way things are arranged in other countries.

We have summed up 10 golden travel tips that will make your life on the road a lot easier and fun. Print these tips and bring them with you on your trip.

  1. MONEY
  2. LAUNDRY
  3. FOTO AND FILM
  4. FOTO AND FILM BACKUPS
  5. ENJOY! JUST DO IT!
  6. TRUST YOUR INSTINCT
  7. WATCH YOUR GEAR
  8. TOILET PAPER!!!
  9. FLASHLIGHT
  10. FIRST AID KIT

1. MONEY – Make sure that you always bring enough (but not too much, see safety) cash money with you. It is really annoying when you have no money on you and you want to buy some food or something nice that you just saw in a store.

2. LAUNDRY – Make sure to wash your clothes in time.
As funny as it may sound, also when traveling you need to make sure that you have clean clothes to wear and we can tell you that there never seems to be a good time to get it done. Your clothes often get dirty while traveling, so keep in mind to wash them before you go on a multi-day excursion.

3. FOTO AND FILM – Make sure that your Photo and film materials are in order.
Make sure that you have plenty (charged) batteries and memory cards. It really is not cool when you reach an beautiful spot and your camera dies on you, or your memory card is full.

4. FOTO AND FILM BACKUPS – Make sure to make COPIES and BACKUPS of your photos and videos.

One of the worst things that could happen is losing your travel pictures. It is easy to lose a camera, memory card or CD with pictures. You could bring a separate hard drive or make regular uploads of your pictures (in the original file size) to a site like www.Dropbox.com or your social network page. Note that many network sites like Facebook automatically resize your pictures when you place them online so make sure to use a website that stores your pictures in the original file size. If you are traveling in an area without fast connections enabling this we advise you to make a copy of your pictures on 2 (!) CD’s or DVD’s. If you’re on a longer trip send one disc home by mail, and keep one with you. If you’re camera breaks, gets lost or stolen at least you will have a back up of your precious pictures waiting for you. In case something would go wrong with the mail, at least you'll have the CD's that you kept with you.

Your pictures are a valuable memory of your trip and we met plenty of people who somehow lost a part of it. Take care of your pictures!

5. ENJOY! JUST DO IT! – Go for it!
When traveling your often in a hurry. If you see something fun, or if you’re invited to eat with the locals… DO IT!!! If you think, “I’ll do that tomorrow” you’ll see that in many cases something comes in between or you change your plans. There is often only one opportunity to get a certain experience. Do it right at that moment!! JUST DO IT!!

6. TRUST YOUR INSTINCT
On the other hand, trust your instinct. If you don’t feel safe or if you think that people are trying to rip you of, you are probably right. So just excuse yourself and leave.

7. WATCH YOUR GEAR
Watch your stuff! When traveling you often lose stuff. Do an extra check when leaving you hotel/hostel and bathroom if you really took everything. Keep your backpack close to you in a bus and lock it where possible with mini combination locks. Where is your bag, where are your valuables when you sleep in the bus or train?!

8. TOILET PAPER!!!
Always make sure to carry some toilet paper.

9. FLASHLIGHT
Always have a flashlight or head torch in your backpack.

10. FIRST AID KIT
Make sure to always Carry a First Aid Kit. Keep it in a waterproof bag.
