HONG KONG
Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau Island and the New Territories. Once you arrive at Hong Kong you’ll immediately realize that there is no time for relaxing or bumming around. What a great city! This tremendous and fast paced city has so much energy. We love it!
One of the primary attractions of Hong Kong is… shopping! Hong Kong is a free trade zone and therefore it is one of the cheapest places on earth to buy cameras, ipods, computers, sunglasses, fashion apparel, authentic and fakes (double double check which of the 2 you’re getting), you name it. The streets and highrise buildings are packed with large billboards, neons, lights. Almost every street in the Tsin Sha Tsui and Mong Kok area resembles Times Square in New York. Wow, it’s crazy. Thousands of people are strolling the streets with seemingly 1 goal, shopping.
But don’t do yourself short by only focusing on the shops. Hong Kong is such a versatile city.
Everything is well organized so even though HK is a fast paced city it still is a very pleasant city to visit. Public transportation, traffic, tourist information, getting around is super-easy.
There are some impressive sites that are well worth visiting. The Peak offers mighty panoramic views over the entire city. A favorite local attraction is the avenue of the stars, Hong Kong’s version of the Hollywood’s Walk Of Fame. From there you’ll also have a great view over HK Island’s skyline. Come at night and witness the spectacular Symphony of Lights show which covers the entire skyline of Hong Kong Island every night at 8. It’s really amazing.
For a more cultural experience, marvel at the giant Buddha Statue and the Po Ling Monastery at Tung Chung, just outside of Hong Kong or visit the coastal defense museum. Fans of megastructures will certainly enjoy the enormous Tsing-Ma bridge.
Dining options are endless and for those who still have energy left Hong Kong’s nightlife will surely not disappoint!
Hong Kong is one of those places which makes you wish that a day would have more than 24 hours. One of the best cities on earth!
