Travel Route Australia - 3 weeks East Coast

When you have little time in Australia probably the best thing to do is (part of) the most popular backpack route: the Great Ocean Road. In 3 weeks you will have a good view on Aussie life. For this itinerary you start in Sydney where you can spend about 3 days to see the highlights and enjoy the atmosphere.

Then take a Greyhound bus and stop at Byron Bay. This little town is a must-do if you like the backpacker’s atmosphere. There are probably more backpackers than citizens in this village. The surf is great and there are plenty of hostels (make sure you make a reservation though). After that you might want to stop at Surfer’s Paradise for even bigger parties (more club-like) then Byron Bay. Besides, as the name indicates, it is paradise for surfers.
After that we went to Brisbane, which is until now still my favorite city! Don’t forget to visit the (free) Museum of Art. In Brisbane you can book a trip to Fraser Island (I highly recommend it) for 3 days. You can ask the trip advisor where you want to start and end your trip so you don’t have to travel back and forth. You can also book tours to other islands of course.
After Fraser head north to Noosa Heads, which is also a great surfer’s village. The beach is beautiful (though busy) and people are really nice. I’ve spend about 5 days there because I met such great people and the surfboards were free to use in our hostel. Unfortunately that was the end of my trip due to school holidays, but I definitely had a great time on this route. I recommend spending more time in Australia though, 4 weeks is not close by enough to see this beautiful country!
