Tuscany’s Bologna, also known as the “red city” is again a fabulous city. Compared to other cities nearby Bologna is a unique city with a very characteristic architecture (everything is build with red bricks) and charm. Striking are the many chimneys of which some are as tall as XXX meter/feet. During the XXX era families used to display their wealth by building chimneys towering high over the city, and of course build using red bricks. The higher the chimney, the more wealth it resembles.

There is a certain quiet and serenity that makes Bologna just a lovely place.

Highlights include Torre degli Asinelli  - and climbing its 498 steps all the way to the top from where you have a great view over Piazza Maggiore - the Basilica of San Petronio and Palazzo Comunale. Of course you can’t leave without trying a pasta Bolognese.
