MONTREAL
Montreal is the capital of the mainly French speaking province of Quebec. You’ll notice right away that both English and French are spoken and you can see that everywhere around you, for example because of the use of bilingual signs.
Although Montreal with its 2 million inhabitants is quite a large city it does not feel that way. Except for the financial district the city consists of lowrise and the European architectural style can be recognized all around, especially in the old city center. Another outstanding feature is the incredible amount of restaurants, bars, tearooms and cafés which are usually well filled.
Nightlife is also spectacular. Montreal’s inhabitants clearly like good food, conviviality, and a good party. If it’s one thing that the French left behind then it’s a healthy spirit of “joie de vivre”. Take note of the ‘BYO’ (bring your own) restaurants. These restaurants can’t sell alcohol and it is allowed to bring your own bottle(s) of wine or beer. Saves you a couple of bucks J.
A fun thing to do is to simply go out and explore the beautiful old city centre, the trendy Quartier Latin and the financial district. Be surprised by the many nice restaurants and cool shops. Shoppers will definitely be able to satisfy their needs. Besides, the most noteworthy sites are the Olympic Stadium, The botanical gardens, the Biodome and the Expo. A visit to Montreal would not be complete without a hike/bike ride to the top of Montreal hill/mountain from where you’ll have a great panoramic view over the entire city.
Montreal is a fun and very pleasant city, definitely worth a visit.
