TRAVEL GUIDE TO MEXICOMexico.. Only a few nations have such a strong and recognizable culture and identity as this fantastic country. Enchiladas and spicy food, Corona beer, mañana mañana, beaches, spring break, Salsa music, margarita cocktails, it’s all so obvious. And you know what... it’s all true. Mexico definitely has all that, but don’t just look for the obvious when you visit this great country. Mexico has so much to offer. Perhaps the greatest thing about Mexico is its people who are always warm, open and friendly to visitors. You’ll make new friends in no time. Obviously this could differ from place to place, but if you go on a trip through the country and especially if you just (try to) speak a little bit of Spanish you’ll soon have to agree that Mexican’s are the kindest of people. In addition to getting acquainted with Mexico’s warm culture there are loads of cool things to discover and explore. Many people come and visit some of Mexico’s terrific beach resort towns like Cancun, Acapulco or Playa del Carmen for some sun, party and well deserved time off of work. People looking for some more quiet (and in fact better beaches) should head for Isla Mujeres, Tulum or Puerto Escondido to just name a couple of options. Yet, Mexico is also among the most exciting countries to explore. In addition to a seemingly infinite coastline of stunning beaches Mexico is home to some fabulous country side with the deserts and canyons of the north, the jungles of the south, the imposing snow-capped volcanoes of the Sierra Nevada and the rolling mountains of Chiapas to just mention a few. Mexico’s many exquisite ruins of former Aztec and Mayan cultures are reminiscent of well advanced former civilizations, which were well advanced already thousands of years ago. Teotihuacan near Mexico City, Palenque and Chichen Itza are some of the best kept archaeological sites in Mexico. A particularly popular destination is the unique peninsula of Yucatan, which is blessed with some of Mexico’s finest tropical beaches and is scattered with Mayan ruins and archaeological sites. In addition, since Yucatan was hit by an asteroid millions of years ago it has a geography characterized by an intricate system of underground tunnels and caves which is unique in the world. Above is just a mere summary of some of Mexico’s most popular highlights. Still, Mexico possibly is among the best countries to go and explore some less visited places and get in touch with the truly untouched Mexican way of life. Whether you come for a few weeks or months, this country will keep you entertained at all times. Infrastructure and public transportation is excellent in Mexico. Popular ways of getting around are by bus or by renting a car and doing your own road trip. Bus companies come in many price ranges and quality levels while still remaining very cheap. Choose the bus company that matches your required comfort level. Just note that the cheapest companies make many many many stops on the way to pick up and drop people and take significantly longer than the quality companies, who only include some essential rest breaks. Popular trips go from Mexico City to Cancun or vice versa. Check in advance if you could split your ticket arriving in Mexico City and departing from Cancun. If that’s not possible internal flights are relatively cheap so you could also fly back to either. Note: Although Mexico has received some negative publicity in recent years concerning drug wars and unsafety it needs to be noted that this only takes place in a concentrated area in the upper north of the country near the United States border. That is more than 1100 miles from Mexico City, so you should be just fine on your trip taking into account some basic safety measures like you would in any other country.
