The Parque Nacional De Chapada Diamantina is an amazing area about 425 kilometers (275 miles) west of Salvador. Main access point is the town of Lencois. The town was founded after diamonds were found in the area. The Parc is a an amazing natural area with hills, mountains, caves, waterfalls, stretched out green valleys and prairie. The area is very fertile and is fed by the rivers that originate from the many surrounding mountains. The mountain ranges found here belong to the oldest on the planet and there is something very Jurassic Park about the area. When exploring this area it feels like going back to prehistoric ages.

Tours can be organized from Lencois and we advise you take take a guided tour as it is quite easy to get lost. You can organize different kinds of trips including single or multi day hiking or horseback riding. Lencois can be reached by bus from Salvador.

Highlights are the Poco Encantado, which is a deep cave filled with incredibly blue water and some incredible waterfalls of which the highest is about 400 meters high.
