Every year, 40 days before Easter carnival arrives in Rio. Pounding rhythms, Samba, incredible women moving and shaking their limbs in even more unbelievable ways, Caipirinhas, sunshine, smiling people! Party, party, and party again! This is the time of the year that Cariocas (people from Rio) have been waiting for all year and they can forget about all their worries. Read more here....

RIO DE JANEIRO : IPANEMA BEACH

Everybody knows the song The girl from Ipanema. Are you curious what inspired the writers when writing the song?
Ipanema beach is perhaps Copacobana s biggest rival. Here a more local and more hip crowd gathers to enjoy the beach, the sun, and watch the people pass by. Search for beach stand 9 and put down your towel for a day full of sun, sea, and watching beautiful people.

Special Tip! When you go thirsty and want to cool down, order a suco (fresh juice) or Acai na tigela (icy Amazonian fruit).

RIO DE JANEIRO: CRISTO DE REDENTOR STATUE

Cristo de Redentor, or perhaps known better as the Christ Statue on top of Corcovado hill (710 m/2500 feet) is one of Rio s most famous trademarks. With its wide spread arms, the 30 meter (100 feet) high statue overlooks the Cidade Maravilhosa. You can go up to the statue by taxi or by the special train which was constructed in 1882. From Corcovado hill there is a marvelous panoramic view over the city. You can see Pao de Acucar, the various beaches, and the Maracana stadium. If the skies are clear you will be able to take many amazing pictures. Makes sure to have enough space on your memory card.

RIO DE JANEIRO : COPACOBANA

Copacobana is Rio de Janeiros most energetic and vibrant district.
With its incredible wide beach, characteristic cobble stones, nightclubs, bars, restaurants and seemingly endless energy Copacobana is just a great place to stay. As such this is the place where most visitors stay. Besides being the coolest place to hang out, Copacobana also has a central position in the city so you willl be where you want to be in no time. Although Rio is great fun year round, probably the best time to visit is during carnaval or New Years Eve when nearly 2 million people come to the beach to celebrate the new year. There are music stages all over and massive fireworks to welcome the new year.

RIO DE JANEIRO : RIO BIKE TOUR

A great and different way to explore Rio de Janeiro is by bicycle. A social project we’d like to support is Rio Bike Tour which offers great (and safe) bicycle tours through Rio , which makes your day in the Cidade Maravilhosa (marvellous city) truly special! The trip takes you along the beautiful beaches of Rio while watching the cariocas playing foot volley on the beach and showing off their tanned and muscular bodies. Exploring the city by bike gives you a totally different perspective of the city, which is really nice!

Besides cycling, you’ll make a stop in a favela (a slum) where a local guide shows you around and explains how life is in the favela. It’s really interesting to see the contrast between the favela and the upscale neighborhoods in Rio. What makes the tour complete is a short hike, which starts in the favela and follows a path through the rainforest. Reaching the top, you have an unforgettable breathtaking view over Rio! Rio Bike Tour is part of a social project, so while enjoying Rio by bike, you’ll support development as well!
