Travel Route: Venezuela Eastern Loop - 2/3 weeksA different approach to Venezuela is to head East from Caracas. Or…. North. This route will provide you with loads of beach time. About a hundred kilometers north of Caracas in the Caribbean Sea lies the Archipíelago Los Roques, a paradise consisting of several amazing coral islands and reefs, perfect for diving, snorkeling and sun bathing. It’s an expensive trip, but definitely worth it. An amazing place is Parque Nacional Mochima. Expect a lot of sunbathing, boat trips, snorkeling, fishing, etcetera. Next take the boat from Puerto la Cruz or Cumaná to the exciting island of Isla Margarita which offers a beach for everybody’s taste. Spend a day or 3 here before you return to the main land. Fairly difficult to reach, and hence, time-consuming an exciting trip is a visit to the Orinoco Delta in the very northeastern part of the country. This is a huge Delta area consisting of several main rivers and countless side-arms resulting in an extensive Delta boasting with wildlife. The best time to visit is from January to March (dry season) when water levels are low. You van organize two to four day tours from Tucupita. Next, travel to the pleasant town of Ciudad Bolivar to organize the unforgettable trip to the majestic waterfalls at Canaíma and Angels Falls. This trip will take 3 days and is a must when visiting Venezuela! If you have time left and you’re an adventurous type, travel further south to Santa Elene de Uairén to see the vast and extensive Savannas of the Gran Sabana in the very south-east of the country. A great adventure here is the trek to the table topped mountain Roraima. You need a full week to do the hike including recovery. After this trip return to the north to spend a few days on the coast before heading back home. If you have more time you could travel west, see the western loop travelspec.
Another option is to head into Brazil after the Roraima track if Venezuela is part of a bigger trip through Latin America. In any case this adventurous route is a great way to see the beauty and great variety of Venezuela’s nature and landscapes, combining both beach time, wildlife spotting and adventure. |
